Make a difference. Leave a Legacy.
By leaving a gift in your Will, you can continue supporting unpaid carers long into the future. Your Lasting Legacy could help ensure that no one in our community faces the challenges of caring alone.
After setting out your wishes to take care of family and friends, you can also choose to give back to the community by leaving a gift to Crossroads Caring for Life and/or other organisations important to you.
No matter how big or small, every gift has the power to make a tangible and lasting difference in the lives of unpaid carers and their loved ones across Hertfordshire.

A Will is a legal document that ensures your wishes regarding your estate are respected.
It is recommended that you speak with a solicitor who will be able to advise you on the required wording to carry out your wishes and ensure the document is legally valid. You are able to update or change your Will at any time.
All you need is the following information to ensure your gift supports unpaid carers and their families in Hertfordshire:

Review
If you already have a Will, now may be a good time to review it in order to ensure that it still suits your current circumstances and wishes. For example, the birth of a new grandchild or the sale of your property can change several terms of the document.
A review can provide a great opportunity to include Crossroads Caring for Life or other charities as beneficiaries in your Will. Please contact your solicitor who will be able to make this amendment on your behalf.
Codicil
If the only change is to include a gift to Crossroads Caring for Life, there may not be need to rewrite it. You can ask a solicitor or similar qualified professional to add an amendment, also known as a Codicil.
A Codicil is attached to your existing Will and would deal specifically with your bequest.
Letter of Wishes
Should you decide not to make a new Will or draft a Codicil, an alternative would be to include a 'Letter of Wishes' alongside your Will. Whilst not legally binding, a Letter of Wishes will inform your executors of your desire to leave a gift to Crossroads Caring for Life. It is advised to deposit this letter with your executors for safekeeping.

Leaving a gift to charity in your Will can reduce the amount your estate pays in inheritance tax. This means that you can make an even greater difference to your loved ones and the charitable causes you care about.
Some people see it as a useful way of bringing their estate under the inheritance tax threshold. Your solicitor can advise you about the current threshold in the UK.

Every single gift is important to us
We and those we support appreciate any gift you may choose to leave, no matter the value. By leaving a gift to Crossroads Caring for Life, you could help us tackle social isolation in the local community and help fund multiple services that offer vital support.
If you decide to leave a gift in your Will to us, you will be supporting us to make life better for local older and disabled adults, helping them stay independent at home for longer and allowing their unpaid carers to breathe, rest and connect. That means the world, both to us and to them.
Thank you for your support
